The State Duma adopted in the third reading the law « On the prohibition of marriages between citizens of the Russian Federation and certain categories of foreigners ».

Since March 1, 2023, Russians are prohibited from marrying citizens of unfriendly states.

Hello, I am a long term lurker, first time poster. I've never had anything to say or ask until now. My fiance and I have gone through a lot of hardship, as we became engaged in August of 2021. Covid, and the then the war, made life very difficult. We got approved by the UCIS in December, and just now have had our case taken by Jerusalem thanks to our lawyers and help from people on this board. Recently, my fiancé has been troubled, and revealed to me that she does not believe she can return to visit her family if she marries me. I found this law lurking on the Russian internet. And I want to know if other Americans marrying Russians have encountered this, or know more. If anyone can help me and give me more information, I would really appreciate it. I have found nothing about this on the english speaking side of the internet.

But can't they interfere if she's gathering documents like the police report? Or what about if she leaves Russia for a couple months and then returns to visit family?

Even the article you posted says "unreliable source: Panorama" so unless it turns up somewhere that looks official I would disregard it.

Well, earlier this year, I got a homestay visa to return back to Russia.  I am a US citizen.  My sponsor is my wife, who has dual citizenship between Russia and the USA.

 

The last half dozen, or maybe dozen, don't know and lost count, times I've been to Russia my wife registered me to stay in her flat.  Well, there was one business trip where I was in her home town and she was in the States, but you get the idea.
