Hi I received this I-797 letter,

I thought after getting your case approved it was going to NVC, however this letter says it went straight to the consulate/embassy ?

Can someone explain what I'm supposed to do next?

Approved I-129Fs go from the California Service Center to the NVC, where they are dispatched to the consulates.  Sometimes they stay at the NVC for a very long time, if the consulate is backlogged.

NVC is not used for K-1.

Next step is somewhat murky. The embassy should contact the beneficiary but https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/family-immigration/nonimmigrant-visa-for-a-fiance-k-1.html#5 suggests that’s not true any more.

It is, but not in the same was as for other visas.

Exactly what it says.  Approved petitions are valid for four months.

before u blacked it out for posting here,  was there a new embassy # on it ?

Mumbai starts with BMB2022xxxxxxxx

u need your new case # (usually assigned by NVC) to complete the process

NVC does not give instructions for K1, follow the guides

Once you receive the notice from the NVC, you need to complete the State Department’s online DS-160 form: Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application. This is the actual K-1 visa application. After you complete this form, you need to print the confirmation page. This is very important because you will need to send the confirmation page to the embassy and bring it to your visa interview.

Cases are on hold till ds 160 is done

at this point embassies differ on how they handle K1/  check your embassy web page as some let u schedule the interview and other embassies do the scheduling
