Hi Community,

It's been long time! I hope everyone is getting their approvals.

I have a question - from what date do I need to start counting 3 y 9 months to apply for citizenship?

I entered US in August 2018

Married in September 2018

Applied for VAWA in April 2019

Divorced in April 2019

VAWA Approved in May 2021

Green Card received without interview in September 2021.

Does the clock start since VAWA application, VAWA approval, or GC issuance? And is it 3 y 9 m or 4 y 9 m ?

Thank you in advance!

Question is are you or were you married to a US citizen or LPR?

If your spouse is a citizen, you can apply from 3 years of being an LPR and can start the process from 2 years and 9 months. If your spouse is an LPR, you can apply from 5 years of being an LPR and can start the process from 4 years and 9 months.👍

It is Wednesday -- time for our (again highly effective!) Semiofficial Semiweekly VAWA-Thread Joke:

==============================

SIGNS SEEN OUTSIDE VETERINARY CLINICS

Someone made a joke about my three-legged cat.  Major faux paw!

My alarm doesn't have a snooze-button.  It has paws.

If a tree falls in a forest and no one's there to see it, a chihuahua 500 miles away will bark at it.

Free belly-rubs with exam!  (Sorry; pets only.)

I used a spot-remover on my dog... he disappeared.

Against animal testing.  They get nervous and get all the answers wrong.

Our dog swallowed a bag of Scrabble tiles.  The vet is checking him out.  No word yet.

:P

It is Sunday -- time for our Official Weekly VAWA-Thread Joke:

===========================

HOW TO START A SENTENCE

A teacher asked her class of 4th-graders to come up with a sentence beginning with "I."

A few children came to the front with predictable statements about having a cat or a certain toy.  Then, a child stepped up and said "I is..." and was immediately interrupted by the teacher:  "I AM!"

The student side-eyed the teacher, frowned, and began again, "I is..."  The teacher interrupted her more severely, "It's 'I am'!  Use the proper word!"

The girl turned to look at her this time, eyelids drooped with exasperation.  "Fine," she sighed.  "I am the ninth letter of the alphabet."

If I file the I-360 will that close out the I-130? If yes, won't the spouse be notified, therefore indirectly notifying the spouse of a likely VAWA filing?

I have an active I-130 filed by my spouse.

Once you submit the I-360 the I-130 won't be valid anymore, since the I-360 will replace your   I-130. USCIS usually denies the I-130 but your spouse won' t know the reason of the denial, but I had many cases that USCIS didn't deny the I-130 tho.

Was your 360 reopened or 485? Why was reopened did you receive notice? Was it close or did you inquire motion to reopen?
