Vaccines During Medical

Hey all,

 

I am still waiting for my interview date, but I want to make sure my medical goes smoothly when I finally get my date without any more delays. 

 

I know that there are certain vaccines required, I am vaccinated as far as I know, but my parents didn't keep my vaccine records, so I do not have any proof. 

 

Should I get tested for immunity before my medical and bring that as proof? Or should I just let it be and let the doctor at the medical do what is needed?

I don't want to do anything before the medical and then it's void for some reason, anyone with similar experience?

It may be cheaper and easier to get the vaccines again if your country provides them at low/no cost.  Then bring the document.  The doctor will probably just give you the vaccines you’d need that aren’t documented, but at a higher cost.  Testing May cost about the same and require more effort.

It’s called titers. Most vaccines you can titer on - definitely MMR, varicella. If your local doctor can give you paperwork on vaccines already received the medical examiner will accept it. Also, if you had chickenpox they just ask how old you were when you had it.

Another possibility:  If you visited the same clinic or couple of clinics for the various shots, see if they'll reconstruct a list for you.  Even if the record includes just a few, you're ahead by that many.

 

The records should be on clinic letterhead or at least be stamped.  Try to get more than one copy.

I agree with the reality that it's cheaper to get all missing shots in your country.

 

Mrs. T-B.-to-be was missing a couple when she arrived in the U.S., and we got them on the same day for (was it free, or for $10?) at our county health clinic.  They helpfully added them onto the vaccination record that she'd brought from Ecuador, so all information was intact in one place.

See how much prior evidence you can collect, first.  It will save you money, time, and injection-site pain.  Fortunately, you have plenty of time to start on this.

My husband had zero documentation and got all that were needed, single dose.  None were a series that I’m aware of.

That's great when it happens, but every medical examiner is different.  Stack the deck in your favor in advance.

Just an update: I was able to contact the hospital after my case was transferred to the embassy. They confirmed that the vaccines are given as 1 dose all at once. (for the clinic in Jakarta) The only requirement is that at least 28 days should pass since your last vaccine (any vaccine). So luckily my last vaccine was COVID and that was back in March. Also - it is required to be fully COVID vaccinated as well, and you can't do the standard vaccines (the one dose shot) and COVID at the same time. So if you have no vaccines, there will be a 28 days waiting time from getting the COVID shot and then the other childhood vaccines.
