But, but... I thought mail-in voting was the greatest thing since sliced bread, and allowed MORE people to vote???

Quote

Starbucks has declined to bargain with newly unionized workers at the Seattle Reserve Roastery, citing plans to appeal their April unionization vote, the company announced Thursday.

The National Labor Relations Board released the vote count on April 21. Employees at the roastery, located at Pike Street and Melrose Avenue in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, had voted 38-27 to unionize with Workers United, an affiliate of the Service Employees International Union.

The coffee retailer now argues that the vote should have taken place in person rather than by mail so that more workers had a chance to participate. The company has declined to bargain with the union while appealing the decision to the NLRB.

Not sure what makes you think a billion dollar company's actions and stance would reflect "liberal" ideals/values. Marketing is BS and Starbucks is basically like every other huge company that does whatever they can to pinch pennies at the expense of their workers. So of course they will use any excuse to undermine the union vote. The C-Level execs at Starbucks don't want their workers to unionize.

I doubt Starbucks has any actual facts to back up that in-person participation would have been higher than mail-in participation.

I prefer Progressive but they absolutely harbour those values as their actions show.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

As bad as corporations or small business owners are, thankfully they are around as otherwise the US would not have become what it is today.
