Bringing a dog to the US

Hello - My fiance is going to enter the US in August with her K-1 visa from Mexico and we are going to bring her dog with us. We are going to drive over the border and then fly to NYC from Dallas. 

 

Has anyone else entered with a dog and can point us in the right direction for the paperwork/requirements we need?

To enter Texas and be in accordance with its state law, all dogs and cats 12 weeks of age or older must be vaccinated against rabies and be accompanied by a rabies vaccination certificate (or pet passport containing required information

 

u need to check with airlines to know if dog needs to be in animal container and their rules

In addition, phone the CBP office at your planned port of entry, soon, to learn exactly what they want.  As soon as your travel plans are firm, call the POE again, a couple of days ahead of time, and ask for the shift supervisor.  Tell him/her that they'll be processing a K-1 entrant and a dog.  Supply your estimated time of arrival at the port.  This will not only ensure that appropriate personnel will be available to process you; it also shows courtesy to a hard-working group (CBP) that has been strained to the limit.  They'll appreciate it.
