NVC Stage: Do I need to submit proof of domicile status?

Hey I totally get what you mean but isn't a drivers license listed in their examples of what to upload for proof of domicile? I figured the driver's license was accepted because of this but I was curious if they included it in the 'must bring original documents of everything submitted', because it would be impossible to bring the a joint sponsor's license.

 

My residence is the same property as the joint sponsor but in a different building, I pay a small amount of rent for upkeep and electricity but no utility bills are in my name, I also don't have a rental agreement because it's not really like that, it's my family. My daughter is in the public school system under this address as well if that makes any difference, curious as to any thought on domicile proof, would 2021 tax transcript provide this?

From what I understand, a DL is enough of a domicile proof if your current livelihood is in the states. If you are sponsoring your spouse and you both reside outside the country, a DL may not be enough.

Hey thanks! I've been living here for 11 months does that count as livelihood or is that referring to paystubs/USA income proof?

 

I have credit card bills sent to my residence as well as it's listed on my bank accounts, would providing this be the same as a driver's license since I could have this while being outside the country too?

Yes, you could have a US credit card or bank account whilst outside the country, but in that case they wouldn’t have local US transactions on the statements. Providing statements that show regular transactions at stores in the US for things like gas, bills, groceries etc are what will show you’re living in the US.

The driver license alone is most likely not sufficient, but you could combine that with your daughter's school records and a letter stating your intention to return to the USA and live at that address.

Hey thanks! I've been in the USA for 11 months now with my daughter. i've read in many threads about people including letters and while I understand certain explanations may be required, should there be some type of letter that is always included? And in that vein would I then include a letter stating I returned to USA such and such date and am living here now with my daughter?

 

I'm also thinking for proof of domicile to include some bank or credit card transactions. Sorry if this is silly but could I redact all the transactions except for ATMs (which display location in the charge description) and submit as many months as sufficient? Would 6 months be good or too much, too little?

If you are living in the USA now (when you submit the I-864, simply state your current US address and indicate your domicile is in the USA.  Domicile evidence is for people not living in the USA currently, or for joint sponsors.
