Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but my wife (a Vietnamese citizen with a Vietnam passport) recently came to the US and got her green card just a week ago. No driver license, SSN, or any other IDs besides her VN passport and the green card. We were thinking of going back to Vietnam for a month. What other documents/papers would be required? Does she need a Visa to enter VN or her VN passport will suffice along with the green card to reenter the US later?

Thread is moved to the Working & Traveling forum.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

She's a Vietnamese citizen. She's doesn't require a visa to go to her country. Her PP will suffice.

She's not a USC. So, her GC will be what she shows on her way back.

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

A visa is for a visitor. She’s Vietnamese, so no visa needed. Passport is enough. Green card is only needed when trying to come back.

Does anyone know what the Covid testing requirement for entering VN and the US again? Is it for entering VN: need to have negative result within 72 hours (can just show them by text/email correct?) and same apply for going back to US? Since my wife just got her green card, we don't know how it's going to be like in case she gets stuck there, what is the longest she can stay before they declare her green card null? We are planning to go on Apr 26th (in about 3 weeks) so I'm not sure if we have enough time for any paperwork that's required.

How long do we have to stay back if we get covid? As soon as we're cleared within 7-10 days then we can fly back again?

Thanks.

US requirements for entry: https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/coronavirus

No additional paperwork is required.  Covid test.  Vietnam passport.  US green card.  That's it for paperwork.

A green card can only be revoked by an immigration judge.   That's not the problem you should be concern with.  The problem is that a green card holder is presumed to have abandoned their green card status by being outside the US for more than a year and the airline will not let her fly because they could get fined.

As long as you can pass the 72 hour PCR test, you can fly back.

For Vietnam entry,

#2 asks "Proof of valid medical/travel insurance covering Covid-19 treatment. Minimum cover USD10,000 (Link to info)." What if we don't have that? She doesn't have any insurance yet.

#3: when I downloaded the app, it's not very clear on the instructions. It's asking me to fill out personal info, such as name/dob/nationality. But for the address, it lists all VN cities. Since I'm coming from the US, what do I put? Am I suppose to put the destination am going to/staying at? Because there's no instruction when asking to fill this part out. It just asks "Address" and then lists a bunch of VN cities. I've attached some screenshots of the app. And some part won't let me edit once I enter the info, like email address.
