but are they even allowed to ask for phone go check for their satisfaction?

Of course they are. Again, if they can come unannounced to your house and take pictures of your and your spouse’s personal belongings then why wouldn’t they be allowed to ask for your phone to be turned in?

Why would they do all that? Is that common?

Checked phones at an interview by USCIS? I haven’t come across that here. I did read several posts about CBP doing that at POE

Home visits? I’ve seen maybe 3 posts so far, the latest one happening last year. There are probably more but they’re old

First, they can come unannounced, but they are not allowed to enter without permission.  Also, they would need a search warrant to check someone's phone.  They can always ask but it's not required to hand it over.   Regardless, I have not seen any posts of phones being checked by USCIS.  CBP do on occasion check phones, but that is more a function of border protection.

I am definitely not a lawyer so I deferred to others with more knowledge on this.

I’ve found one post about being asked to show your phone during AOS interview but I’d say that’s definitely an outlier…

True. But I’m sure it won’t do you any favors if you refuse to cooperate. If they ask to check your phone or to come into your residence it’s more likely than not they have some sort of suspicion already. Now whether those suspicions are warranted or not, that’s another discussion

Are they legally allowed to do that?

You’re ok to proceed with AOS. How long after your arrived did you get married?

also bear in mind that you won’t be able to travel or work for 8-9 months. If you’re fine with that go ahead

About a month or so. Does that matter?

It could matter. There is no rule per se (not 90, not 70 days) but I’ve heard some attorneys saying that below 60 days could be red flagged.

Why is that?

Because they may suspect that you entered with the purpose of getting married, adjusting your status and staying here, instead of just visiting and leaving.

Like I said, it’s not 100% guaranteed it will happen. I’m saying it might happen.
