My husband and I just had our interview in Philadelphia, PA.  As we were waiting, we saw many officers calling in other couples.  They all seemed really nice.  Of course, our name was called by a stone-cold woman-lol!

She asked to see all proof that we were in a bonafide marriage- so we gave her everything we brought: birth certificates of our 2 children, our lease, we are about to buy a house, so the sales contract for that, trip receipts from vacation and work trips, our tax transcripts from past 3 years plus this year’s tax return, documents showing we own our business together, health insurance, car insurance, renter’s insurance, photos, certified marriage certificate, etc.

She pages through everything in total silence *awkward* and asked us basically nothing.  Our full names, our daughters full names, their birthdays and that’s it. Nothing really relating to our marriage whatsoever.  Then she said we would receive a letter with her decision 🤷🏻‍♀️

We’ve been married for 5 years, have 2 kids, a business and are buying a house together. In my mind, it’s about the most bulletproof case ever, so I don’t understand why we weren’t approved on the spot….

Is this a good sign or bad?

Because IOs can’t decide anything any more and an IO that tells an applicant   that the petition is approved is technically not telling the truth.  You can find cases where applicants  are told they are approved and the written decision  takes months to arrive, or there is an RFE, or a denial, or no decision.

IOs can say they will recommend approval.  Some don’t say whether they will recommend approval or recommend denial. It’s a personal style thing.

Since she asked nothing I think it is a good sign.

Your case is strong. You’ve had children together.  I think you will be approved in under 30 days.

btw keep those tax transcripts.

If you want to keep busy while waiting on pins and needles, then assuming your spouse has been a USA citizen for 3 years, get your  N-400 together and file.

As long as she did not comment anything negative during the interview, you should be good. Some officers would not give on the spot approvals. I understand you are disappointed and probably feeling a bit anxious. But I believe you have nothing to worry about. You would probably get the approval soon in a few weeks. Like you said, you have solid proof of a bonafide legitimate marriage, you have nothing to worry about. The only frustrating part is the wait.

Re-read what I wrote:

Sometimes the supervisors also conduct interviews, so maybe in your case you got a supervisor/IO that is able to give an approval on the spot.
