Hello! My fiancé from Colombia has a 13 year old son. We are going to wait to petition him to come to the US until he’s done with high school, however, we’d love to have him come visit us. Has anybody had any luck getting a tourist visa approved for the child of a beneficiary? If not, does anybody know if it would be possible to have him do an exchange program for a semester at a local high school, or would that likely get denied?

At least one person has posted in your thread a success story.  But to me subjecting a 13 year old to the potential trauma of CBP denying entry of someone with future immigration intent is too high a risk.

A cultural exchange program would not work since he would be required to live with an American family in the program.  (Can't be mom and you.)

In his situation, mom living in the US, any non-immigrant visa will be difficult.  A tourist visa may be possible.  The CO can view it two ways, 1) he had an opportunity to immigrate with his K1 mom but didn't and this points towards non-immigrant intent, or 2) changed their mind about him immigrating and now using a non-immigrant visa to get to the US quickly so he can adjust status.  Dual edge sword.  Especially since he can adjust status.

Consider getting him an immigrant visa.  He comes to live with you in the summer.  He can come to the US to attend high school for a year.  Get him a Re-Entry Permit.  It's good for 2 years and can be be renewed once for another 2 years.  Mom will likely become a US citizen before he turns 18.  This would allow him to get derivative US citizenship.
