Hi all,

Have been scouting around here and couldn't find an answer for my particular scenario (or I just suck at searching) so figured i'd just ask.

As i'm now getting close(ish) to the point where my K1 visa will reach NOA2, the process of moving is becoming more prominent in my mind. I previously worked in the US at summer camps on a J1 visa, while I was there in 2011 I was issued with a SSN and card. As a K1 recipient all the advice seems to be that the moment I enter the country and before being married that I need to schedule an appointment to get a SSN - but as someone who already has a SSN from a previous visa do I still need to do this? Or is this SSN my one-time only, valid forever SSN and thus i'm in the fortunate position of not needing to reapply?

Cheers!

This is correct.

Only on I485 form, you may want to still check to apply for SSN or stop by SS office after getting GC, so you get issued a new card without any annotation, the number will remain unchanged.

@arken @Boiler Thank you both for the answer, nice to know that at least there's one part of this whole process that has just become a little more streamlined (goodness knows it's the only part that has been!). I'll bear in mind getting a new card without annotation further down the line.

One time and forever. My husband had previously lived and worked in the U.S. when he was younger. Do you still have a copy of it?  If not, go to the social security office and ask for a replacement.

Still got it, thankfully 22 year old me was smarter than I gave him credit for. Glad to know I don't need to worry about applying for one at least!
