Old Passport Required for K1 Interview?

My partner's interview is this coming Tuesday. She has everything she needs for her interview, however one requirement listed by the embassy was "Previous passports and/or documentation of prior international travel." She has had her current passport for approximately 8 years and carefully disposed of/destroyed her previous passport years ago. She has never traveled to the US or received a visa. We listed her travel history on her DS160 and have a signed form stating that she has only traveled to Mexico and Guatemala in the past. Does anyone have any other suggestions or insight into whether this may pose a problem? Embassy is Belmopan, Belize.

Yes, it's a problem. Immigration officers look at previous passports to review past travel history. They don't just take applicants' word at face value. They always look for evidence.

Why did she "carefully disposed of/destroyed her previous passport" in the first place?

Well you can’t bring what you don’t have. Just explain what happened and hope for the best. I am confident that they are not going to refuse her visa just because she doesn’t have her expired passport from 8 years ago. Lots of people destroy expired documents, since they are no longer valid and have absolutely no use of them, unless expired document contains a valid visa. it’s not like she knew that she will be needing her old passport 8 years in future for k1 visa interview.

Well I’ve never travelled to the US prior to my K1 visa, and I brought the previous passport with me to my interview but it was never asked for.

But I also assume that they have you in the system and can look at your previous travelling records.

I have 3 expired passports before mine but only brought the latest expired one. Lost my 2nd expired one somewhere. But yeah I don’t think they’re going to question you about expired passports.
