Hi there. My husband and I have filed for his mother to come from Philippines (I5). Covid has really rocked this process. We filed I-130 11/2019, got excited when it was approved 5/18/21. Four days later we were notified by NVC that they had the case and we could log on and start that process. We were DQ’d on 7/1/2021. Now what happens? We got an email saying it would be forwarded to Manila. How long is this part of the process taking these days? Any other information would be great about what to expect next. We really want this to get moving for a multitude of reasons.

IR 5 was suspended for almost a year so there is still quite a backlog.   Pre-pandemic interview was about 3 to 4 months after DQ.  Now?  Who knows.

YMMV

Be thankful. They stopped sending some visa types to the USEM. There may be a backlog and the line may be long, but at least you are in the line. Since covid, no one can really predict how long it will take.

Thank you for your replies! So, as I was asking and didn’t convey clearly, what happens next? Are we in a line? Do I need to do anything more or will we get some sort of notification? All I’m aware of is once we get an interview we schedule the medical? Anything else?

Nope. Once they give you a date for the interview, schedule the medical about 3 days prior.

Another Question: Is the 485 something we need to do for a Greencard? We were not advised about this and I have been reading about it today. I thought that it is automatically included with the I130. Please educate me. Thank you.

No, that's for people who are already in the US. Your MIL will get her GC in mail automatically after she lands in the US using her IR5 visa, provided the immigrant fee is already paid.

Wife filed for parents 7/2019, Approved 4/2020, DQ’d 4/2021 and hanging out waiting for interview. Given the backlog I doubt they will get an interview this year. Probably good in our case as they won’t travel alone and one of us getting in there to travel with them doesn’t look easy anytime soon.
