Hi VJ,

We were wondering if the Covid-19 vaccine is considered a means tested public benefit, and if after getting it we could get a bill later in the mail saying we need to pay x amount of money back because its a means tested public benefit.  Or is the vaccine not and on the means tested public benefit aspect it's all good to get it and we won't owe any money back?

Thanks for clarifying for us in advance!

Cheers.

If you receive a bill it is a scam. You can report it to the police or toss in the trash or whatever you want to do.

If anyone asks you to pay for access to a COVID-19 vaccine, you can bet it’s a scam. Don’t share your personal or financial information if someone calls, texts, or emails you promising access to a vaccine for an extra fee.

COVID-19 vaccination providers cannot:

  • Charge you for a vaccine
  • Charge you directly for any administration fees, copays, or coinsurance
  • Deny vaccination to anyone who does not have health insurance coverage, is underinsured, or is out of network
  • Charge an office visit or other fee to the recipient if the only service provided is a COVID-19 vaccination
  • Require additional services in order for a person to receive a COVID-19 vaccine; however, additional healthcare services can be provided at the same time and billed as appropriate

The vaccine is free of charge for everyone in the United States.

Awesome thank you all, we were told its free, but we knew the money to make it free was coming from somewhere.  We just wanted to make sure that the government wasn't covering it in a way that was a means tested public benefit and we would receive a crazy bill later in the mail.

Please breathe, means treated benefits isn't something you'll get "by accident". . You'll have to deliberately enroll/register. They'll want to check the citizen, or immigrant, status and ID.

The Covid vaccines are offered to all for free, no ID, no residency requirements.
