Our beloved cat, Vicky, whom I've known for over 15 years, is suffering with liver tumours. She stopped eating about a week ago, other than taking a few licks of food when we put it under her nose. We took her to the vet today, and the doctor did an ultrasound; most of her liver is tumourous, there's nothing that can be done. The doctor gave us some pain medication for Vicky, so that we could have a little more time with her to say goodbye. We will put her down this weekend. I know everyone says this about their furry friends, but Vicky really is a special kitty. Lai didn't even like cats when she came her, but she quickly grew to love Vicky. I knew there was a possibility we'd get this kind of news while Vicky was getting tested, but Lai was unprepared when the doctor said putting her to sleep was a real possibilty; Lai wasn't expecting that so soon. Then she did the ultrasound, and told us there was no hope :crying: I am crying uncontrollably as I type this...we are going to miss her painfully :crying::crying:

I am saddened to hear of this. Vicky , in truth, belongs to the Father. He put her in your care for a reason and now He wants her with Him so she will not suffer, but be in paradise for all eternity where you will be with her again. He will give you the strength and grace to bare this. If His eye is on the little sparrow, surely it is on Vicky also.

Let me share a post with you I made several months ago:

I have owned many pets in my lifetime. My father and bother are both vets so growing up we were surrounded by animals, both large and small. And I learned that in everyone's lifetime (well, at least in my lifetime) there is one pet, one special dog or cat, or bird or whatever, that occupies a special place in our hearts. The one pet you loved just alittle bit more than the rest. For me that pet was a fat gray cat named 'thingy'. And on a rainy Friday morning, July 31, 2004 I had to put her to sleep. She was sick and tired and she was ready to go and I could see it in her eyes. To this day this single act of compassion is the hardest thing I have ever had to to in my life. So Val, I feel your pain. Hang in there, the pain eventually goes away and is soon replaced by many loving memories...

So Scott & Lai, I feel your pain as well. I still think of my thingy every day of my life. I miss her terribly. But for me, she is not really gone but alive and well in my heart...

Scott and Lai I am sorry to hear that, but she has had a good 15 year life with you and you have your memories and the knowledge that you did the best thing for Vicky and let her go before the pain was too much for her to endure.

Scott, I'm so sorry. In fact I'm crying for you right now.

Losing a pet is always hard...I went through it with my dog, Prince. The only consolation that I had (we had to put him down due to illness) was that I was doing the right thing by Prince and putting his needs before my own. Yes, we could have kept him around longer, but he was in tremendous pain.

Someone gave me this shortly after Prince died....it brought comfort to me, so maybe it'll bring comfort to you and Lai.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.

There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Scott and Lai,

I feel so sad for you both. Pets do become true family members , faithfull, loving and certainly with an unconditional trusting love for you. This weekend is going to be very painfull for you, the one comfort you will have is that Vicky will be free from pain.

I lost my dog Scamp 18 years ago!, he was 19. It broke my heart when we gave the vet permission to put him to sleep, but a sense of relief too, that he was free from pain.

Will be thinking of you both

hugs

Margy
