Hello Everyone,

I hope that this message finds you well...I am curious about a couple of things and hopefully some of you who recently, 2021, became US Permanent Residents can help with the following questions:

After US Entry or Arrival on US Immigrant VISA issued by Consulate or Embassy:

1)How long did it take you to receive your green card? (entry Year 2021)

2) Did you select "YES" on the DS-260, if so did you get your SSC? If not, how did you make it work to get one since the SS-Offices are all closed and only taking "emergency" appointments.

I have been reading the forums for the 2020 year (not a surprise) and apparently, it was a such a mess! In my personal experience, even if you chose the DS-260 option, not a single person I know in over two decades gotten theirs that way (I assume some may have gotten theirs that way)... they always had to go in person and apply at their local SS-Office. The green card arrival upon US entry was a big range between 1 week to 2 years. Anyway... any recent experience/advise is appreciated....

best regards,

In my case, last year, I had to apply in person at the SSA office for my SSN. I selected yes on the ds260 but i didn’t receive my ssn card. I needed it for some paperwork at my husband’s job. It wasn’t easy but in the end I was able to get an appointment at the SSA.

My green card took 6 months and I had to make two inquiries to USCIS.

I ticked yes for ssn but did not receive it after three weeks so had to apply for one through ssa office yesterday, communication is poor and requires follow up.

Found out that even though I have job offers, I can’t progress as they use ssn for background checks even though the visa allows work.

id advise applying for one on landing at an ssa office,as it’s pretty much needed to do anything.

Hey everyone thank you for the responses.... to be honest, I do not know of a way to track anything... it kind of sucks that if you paid for all the fees prior to arriving to the US, you have no way to track GC, nothing... I see that people who pay the IV fees after arrival can track GC production etc. I guess it's more waiting.... at least the relative is here so that is a big plus!

You can track the GC with the case number you receive after paying the fee. When the card is produced they will also give you the USPS tracking number.

SSN is not issued by USCIS, They just forward the application.
