Employment authorization.  On a K3 you adjust status like K1, part of that is applying for employment authorization.  No SS card until you get that approved.  K3 used to be (and may become) quicker but it has downsides

On the USCIS site it says k-3 holders can work, but to show proof of eligibility they can fill out the employment authorization form.

Reading through this is so disheartening. I've been waiting 10 months for an I-130 approval for my husband. It makes me want to file for K-3 but at this point it's probably not even worth it. Also can anyone tell me where to look on here for the Potomac processing trends? I don't see it listed on the trends page for CR-1. Thanks!!!

K3 visaholders apply for employment authorization exactly like K1’s do.

When it arrives, you can work.  We know the rules, we got one.  It takes awhile, which is the downside of K3

Our petition took almost 11 months to be approved, even without any RFEs.  NOA1 was from Nebraska, NOA2 from Potomac.  We only found out around month 8 that our petition had been transferred.

Here's the progress thread for Potomac --
