Hi,

I am a K1 VISA HOLDER and I'll be moving to the US soon. I'd like to start community college this summer, but my fiance would have to get a student loan for me from a private bank. Would it affect my Adjustment of Status?

thanks for answering!

no,  student loans are just that and you pay them back like any other loan

they are not public benefits

you do understand that when you have met the state residency requirements as a California resident ,  you can have tuition free at state colleges for at least the 1st year so it might be worth the wait to attend

I would highly suggest you wait until you are a resident and you can most likely go for free. But no, getting a loan does not affect your adjusting of status.

Depends on the state.  Sometimes, it depends on the college district.  You will have to check with the community college you want to attend.

Look into your state-it’s state specific . Connecticut just made it free a year ago I believe.
