Hi all,

I filled out and submitted my DS-160. After coming across the list of required documents, I noticed it says that police certificates are needed for all names used. Now, I'm a little worried and I'm thinking if I shouldn't have included my nickname that my friends call me by. Just to be clear I have never used my nickname for any official documents or had any ID's in that nickname. I included my nickname in the I-129F and i just wanted to be consistent so I also included it in DS-160. Should I be worried? Has anyone ever come across this? Should I email the consulate to let them know? Thanks for any help.

Consulates are different but I've never been asked about a police certificate for a nickname. This refers more to legal name changes that have happened or if you have an artist name in your passport ( that's at least an option in Germany ).

Thanks for your input. My worry is more about what if they think that I had a different first name and will ask me for documents for that name and won't take my word for it (that it's just a nickname). Or am I overthinking?

My nickname is just a shorter version of my full name. As an analogy, imagine that my name is Natasha and my nickname is Tasha.

I have many nicknames, depending on whom I'm interacting with. Should I write down any? NO.....

Those documents mostly call for "other legal names " that you used. If you unofficially shortened your name from Katherine to Kate, that doesn't count, even if you write in on documents. Why doesn't it count? It's not official.

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

I understand that.... However, I already put the nickname and there's no going back. I was just wondering if this will cause any issues. That is all.
