Travel during Covid from the UK to US?

Hello

I recently bought three tickets for my husband's family (mom, dad, and little brother) to come visit for 10 days from England, June 28-July 8th. His dad has terminal cancer and the doctors gave him a year so this is the last time my husband will probably be able to see his dad. His mom recently sent me a link stating that they are suspending any travel until July and if they leave, they will be charged 5,000 pound a piece. Has anyone else heard this or do you think they'll be safe for travel. I know they have to have a negative covid test 72 hours before flying and they also were approved the ESTA.

It doesn't matter if they've been approved for an ESTA or if they have a negative test - the UK government has put this law in place re travel and it has been made very clear that Brits cannot go on holiday outside of the UK, in their efforts to control their covid outbreak. So yes, I would categorically state that they will NOT be safe to travel.

I'd suggest canceling their tickets and your husband flying to visit his family in the UK instead. That is what I intend to do, later this year.

I'm sorry about the situation your family is in; it must be extremely difficult for you all.  There are two issues that impact travelling between the UK and US right now.

How do they overcome the Presidential Proclamation banning travel into the US from the UK, if it's still in place in June?  There has been talk that it will be lifted in mid-May, but there's no guarantee of that right now.

How does their travel meet the British requirement of being a reasonable excuse (by their definition) to travel?  For more information on the March 29th announcement, see the "International Travel" section at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/covid-19-coronavirus-restrictions-what-you-can-and-cannot-do .

Are they refundable tickets?

Presumably you were able to sort out the travel insurance and are hoping that the UK lift the current restrictions by then?
