Consulate Interview scheduled but Country’s border closed

My wife visited me in the US before the I-130 was approved. We are going through consular processing.  She was approved while still in the US. However, her country’s borders are closed so she is unable to go home in time for the Interview. We do not want to adjust status. What can be done?

When does her authorized visit expire?  Seems to me that an extension of her visit might be warranted if she doesn't want to adjust status.

I can't imagine any country would bar it's actual citizens from coming home, especially when COVID testing/quarantining etc are completely possible.

Well her country bar everyone you need an exemption to enter citizen or not. The exemption takes forever to be approved

The issue is getting a flight back home. Once borders are closed, the airlines tend go cancel all flights to that country.

I just came across your post. it is easier to reschedule the appointment. If you are to do AOS it would take longer. Don't let the I-94 expire however without filing for a extension. If you do file let her walk with a copy of the Notice to the appointment so they can see she was never 'illegal'. I was in the same predicament. Was able to get an exemption and go back for my appointment. Also carried my notice that i filed for the extension.

Just out of curiosity: Which country is that?

 

I agree that it sounds very hard to believe for me that she couldn't get in as a citizen.

And since you mention exemption: Can't you just contact the home countries embassy in the US for help? They are there to help their citizens

Trinidad and Tobago. Everyone trying to get Into The country citizen or otherwise has to get an exemption.
