Because it's not about all of this the time limit was only 180 days after boot camp for active duty before requesting the N426 from the O-6.

I understand that and quite frankly I don't see a problem with the in service requirement. Do you see a problem with it, and why?

although it is a fast track to citizenship,  you sign contract to serve (in most branches) for 2, 4 or 6 years and this must be served as going AWOL or quitting  constitutes a breach of contract which is also against the law.

 

and subject to dishonorable discharge which can itself be a reason for revoking the naturaliztion

 

Since you may become a naturalized U.S. citizen by virtue of serving in the U.S. military, your citizenship may be revoked if you are dishonorably discharged before serving five years. Reasons for dishonorable discharge, which must follow a general court-martial,

Hey all,

 

Just to update, I have not had any luck in getting my N-426 certified. My recruiter keeps saying it is not possible to get the form signed despite the memo. With that in mind, if you are trying to get your N-426 certified in RSP, expect an uphill battle.

Sorry to hear that. Just don’t give up. Keep bugging your chain of command. The memo gives the chain of command 30 days to return the n-426 from the date of submission. If you haven’t already, make sure it is submitted with the memorandums as most commanders probably aren’t even aware of the n426 or it’s purpose.

Yeah, I submitted the request along with the memo to my recruiter who is the first chain of command. She does not want to send it up the chain because she claims it won't get signed. 

 

I am pretty sure it is just because it is something new and she has not experienced this before, but the memo clearly states it. Lol

You have to go through BCT/AIT first to get it signed, people get their citizenship back in the days before going BCT and they refuse to ship or deliberately fail drug test!

Current policy allows individuals to submit the N426 regardless of time in service. It even specifically states individuals in the RSP can submit it. I think most commands just aren’t tracking the new policy.. or the rescinded/changed policies. It is sad people use this to get naturalization, and don’t follow through with their commitment to serve,  but it’s also written that those individuals that don’t fulfill their obligation can have their naturalization revoked.

I totally agree with you, most of them did not even know what N426 is until you explain or print it out for them to see. If the policy stays the same it will take about a year for them to catch the update. 

 

 I don't blame them though, good information just tend to travel so slow in the military

For those of you in the National Guard that have completed BCT: how long did it take you to attend BCT after enlisting with the National Guard? Ive heard it can take up to a year before you can even get a BCT date, so i want to hear from everyones personal experiences and timelines. Thanks.

It all depends on what job you end up choosing that determines your ship date. They schedule you to ship on the nearest AIT availability. 

 

I enlisted in October and I am shipping out in May. Another person who enlisted on the same day as me is shipping in February.

Nope. That requirement was struck down in court. DOD policy now allows green card holders to ship even if their Background Investigation isn't finished yet.
