Visa status stuck on Application Received, some applicant had interview later than me had gotten visa issued

Hi all,

I had my interview on 10th Nov, CEAC status changed from NIV Application Received on 10th Nov and nothing has changed since the interview. I read that once your case change to NIV means the visa will be issued soon. However some of the Malaysia K1 visa applicant who had interview at the same embassy as me have already gotten their visa issued ahead of me

  1. some applicant who had the same interview date with me, same visa category has already gotten their visa issued 10 days after interview.
  2. some applicant who had interview date later than me has already gotten their visa issued 3 days after the interview.

My questions is what are the possible holds ups?
Could my visa be rejected at this point?

I have not gotten any letter/ email that the embassy need extra documents from me. However, in my medical report, the doctor did indicate I had experimented with marijuana before, but i'm no class and during the interview, the CO did not ask anything related at all about my medical report.

I have been trying to be patient, but seeing other visa applicant got their visa issued when they have the same interview date as me and had their interview date later than me have already gotten their visa issued, I think it's fairly normal for me to be curious and upset about my situation.

I am in the same situation mine has been stuck since November 6th. I have emailed the Nigeria embassy and they just tell me it’s processing.... it’s quite annoying. I would rather have some sort of update... but to see your case on the same status for almost 30 days is quite disappointing...... I keep emailing them just hoping for some movement... I am thinking about getting my congressman involved...

All cases go through some administrative processing and checks after the interview.  Some cases require more time to complete those actions.  Keep watching the status to change to issued.  That is the only indication of actual approval.  Good luck.  May you be with your loved one soon.

Hello, thanks for your reply.

Understand that everyone goes thru AP, but my case is still on "Application Received" since my interview. not dates are changed either....people who had their interview on the same day or later days has already gotten their visa status "issued' on CEAC.

Administrative processing can take many forms. Anything from printing and preparation time to additional background checks comprise the term "administrative processing".

Then why is the status not updated to administrative processing.....

Some consulates update to "administrative processing" for extended AP, but not for short term processing.....I think it depends on individual consulate processes.  It is usually a really good sign if the consulate keeps the passport after the interview.

Yeah, I think for Malaysia Consulate, they only change to AP then the next day is issued. I will wait for my embassy to reply on this matter (but dont think they will provide anything useful). But it doesn't make sense when someone had their interview after me, gets their visa 3 days after interview. (same consulate, same visa). Worst still, someone who had their interview date same as mine ( same visa as well) got their visa issued last Friday.

Wish I wasn't following anyone's timelines, and let it be. Would have made me feel less anxious. lol
