So I got one of those automated emails from VisaJourney a couple days ago giving me an update on when I might expect my AP and EAD. The e-mail said May 4, 2021. I filed in late August. If I'm not getting AP or EAD until May, I will have to withdraw my application and return to my country because I will become unemployed and bankrupt. When I click on my actual timeline though it still shows an estimate of Jan 26-Feb 25, which is possibly doable.

I know these things are just estimates and they can change, but which one is more likely to be correct? The update in the email or the timeline on my profile?

EAD AP card is taking 7-8 months currently, so if you filed in late August, you should get it around late March, but more than likely around April. From people I know who have applied and what I have seen this month on here posted.

In your post it says you will become unemployed? So you are working now?

You’re already unemployed are you not?

I’m currently employed, but probably won’t be come Jan 1 unless I can get this immigration paperwork moving along, or unless my employer is willing to give me an unpaid leave of absence.

Unfortunately my spouse, who is my sponsor, has become ill and unable to work right now. So it’s all on me. (We have a joint sponsor at least, for the application.)

I was more curious which timeline was considered more accurate, the one listed on my timeline or the one in the email? Or maybe both are way off. I know it’s all just an educated guess but I’m surprised by the discrepancy is all.  Thanks!

Not sure how you’re working without an EAD.

Looks like this thread is in the wrong sub-forum.  From OP's post history, AOS from work visa, not K1 --

Thanks I’ll move it.

Are you authorized to work?

I’m only authorized to work for my current, foreign employer. And I’ve been told that job is being repatriated come January. So I’ll either have to go home for a bit to keep my current job or look for a new one. Can't really do either without Ap or EAD. One or the other might suffice for now.

I was mainly curious about the accuracy/discrepancy in the Visajourney timeline vs email. Or do I just totally ignore both of them as reliable guides?

try to get a job offer from your current employer and you can apply for an expedite for the EAD.

My employer is in my home country and sent me here to open a US office. They’ve now decided because of covid to close the US office. So I won’t be able to ask them for a job offer.

I’m on a non-immigrant work visa. It’s specifically for me to work for my foreign employer. They sent me here to open a US office for them. I’m not able to work for a US employer on this visa. My spouse is a dual citizen, so the green card application is via marriage not employment.

My employer informed me recently that they intend to close the US office at the end of the year. I get it - covid has been awful for them and they are reevaluating all their business plans. Foreign offices are very expensive. But I’m stuck in limbo. I’m looking for jobs here, but it’s tough without an EAD. If I had AP I could go back to my country and continue to work for my employer for a few months until I got EAD and lined up a job. But no AP either yet. No bio. No RFIE for I-944, which is all ready to go. No courtesy letter for medical. Nothing.

I can take an unpaid leave for 1-2 months if something was coming in Jan or Feb. But not May. My employer would not support that.

The other option is to transfer it from AOS to consular processing and go back home. I’d hate to do that but if it comes to it, I will.

Some of it depends on whether the “May” email update from Visajourney is accurate or not. That’s why I was asking about the accuracy of Visajourney timelines and email updates. Thanks!

My AOS is via marriage to USC not employment, though it’s not K1 visa. That’s why I’ve been posting in the AOS from K1 Forums. The AOS via employment seems to be going along different timelines than marriage to USC.
