I-864a notarized?

I can see that the form i-864a needs to be notarized from May 2020 onwards for the immigration visas.

 

It states on the website the Affidavit of support needs to be notarized by a immigration officer or U.S Consular.

 

So my problem is my partner currently lives in Australia with me. How on earth are we meant to do this?

Can i wait until the interview date to have the consular sign the form for us? Or do i have to go and find and pay an immigration lawyer to sign this as well. Is this the same with my partners mum who will be joint sponsoring us? She currently lives in America. 

 

Ugh seems like such an annoying step to make!

I-864a does not need to be notarized.  Just needs a signature.

When you have completed the affidavit of support, compiled the necessary documentation, and had the affidavit notarized in the United States or before a U.S. consular or immigration officer, you should provide this packet of information to your relative to submit with his or her application for permanent resident status. If you are given specific instructions to file your affidavit of support directly with the National Visa Center, you should follow those instructions.

Contact the US Consulate in Sydney via email for instructions for notarization.  Do NOT make the mistake of thinking that an Australian Justice of the Peace signature is sufficient.

 

Your Mom can get her form notarized at her bank.  Sometimes there is notary at Staples.

There is a proposed change this year by USCIS to require notarization for form I-864.  I have not heard it progress beyond the proposal stage.  

 

If you check the links to the I-864 forms on USCIS, you will see that the most recent version date of the form is 10/15/19.  Per the form and it's instructions, notarization is NOT required.

I-864, Affidavit of Support is for AOS after marriage. The I-134, Affidavit of Support is used for the interview which DOES NOT need to be notarized. Are you processing a K-1 visa or a CR-1/IR-1 as you have not completed your profile on the left-hand side? We are a little confused.
