Hey everyone,

 

Anyone here in the same boat? I recently enlisted and will be shipping to bootcamp in May. I plan on applying for my citizenship through the military as soon as possible. If anyone has any questions about the process or anything I am happy answer. 

I-751

7/14/20 - Application mailed.

7/17/20 - Application received.

7/24/20 - Text notification received with a WAC number.
7/31/20 - 797 received. Printed on 7/26/20.

1/06/21 - Case transferred.

1/13/21 - Received transfer notice in mail.

1/21/21 - Biometrics applied.

1/26/21 - Received biometrics reuse notice in mail. 

2/11/21 - Called for an update on my case and was told file is in local office.

2/26/21 - Received interview notice. Printed on 2/22/21.

 

N-400 - Military Service Based

1/12/21 - Application submitted online; Application received.

1/13/21 - Received IOE electronic receipt notice via email; Biometrics walk-in; Case status changed to "Case is Being Actively Reviewed by USCIS."

1/19/21 - Received paper receipt notice in the mail.

1/22/21 - Received email from USCIS that a new receipt notice will be issued due to an error on the previous one.

1/26/21 - New receipt notice posted on my online account. 
2/01/21 - New receipt notice arrived in mail.

Awesome! My wife did the same.  Six years enlisted in the Air National Guard.  Citizenship right after basic.  Now she is an active duty nurse and officer. The sky is the limit. Go for it. And congrat

You are able to apply for citizenship through the military on Day 1 of bootcamp. That is my plan. 
 

I am able to apply for citizenship through marriage in July of 2021, but if I choose to do it through the military route the fees are waived.

Does that apply to the National Guard? I'm not sure that the National Guard training qualifies as "active duty".

August 7, 2022: Wife filed N-400 Online under 5 year rule.

November 10, 2022: Received "Interview is scheduled" letter.

December 12, 2022:  Received email from Dallas office informing me (spouse) to be there for combo interview.

December 14, 2022: Combo Interview for I-751 and N-400 Conducted.

January 26, 2023: Wife's Oath Ceremony completed at the Plano Event Center, Plano, Texas!!!😁

February 6, 2023: Wife's Passport Application submitted in Dallas, Texas.

March 21, 2023:   Wife's Passport Delivered!!!!

May 15, 2023 (about):  Naturalization Certificate returned from Passport agency!!

 

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Yes, being that the National Guard is a reserve component of the Army, it also qualifies for expedited naturalization as any other branch of service. The policy used to be that National Guard and other reserve members had to have one year of service before being eligible, but a court order in September struck that down.

Your background starts the day you enlist. It is not longer a requirement to have your background completed before you shipping out to bootcamp. It is 7 months from enlisting to going to Basic. I barely enlisted in October and I will be going in May.

Is it for national guard the background check takes that long or is it the fact that the job you choose isn’t open until that time?

 

im just asking because of other individuals saying their jobs are open and it’s about 4 months

It is dependent on the type of job you choose. My MOS training was not available until that month. Some jobs are shipping out as early early next year from what I have heard.

You’re absolutely right after checking I went to meps a few days ago and my recruiter just told me there’s a mos available and they going in January 4th basic training MO
