N400 In process- 10Yr GC expiring

I thought I would ask around here and see if anyone happened to be in the same situation;  My 10yr GC expires April 21, 2021 and my N400 was filed in May of this year!  (I know I waited till the last year, life happens and this is when I could get it done). 

 

Anyway, my listed processing time is November 2021 and my concern is that I won't be able to renew my DL or travel out of the country once my GC expires and my N400 approval?   Any thoughts or advise?

I have my citizenship application filed already, it is going to take just as long and another fee to get a renewal for a few more months while I am waiting.  Also, its the processing here in Atlanta that is taking so long so I would assume it wil take just as long.

Of course, it will be another fee.  After your GC expires, you can ask USCIS to place an I-551 stamp in your passport.

Ohhh!  I vaguely remember those from back in the day.. That is excellent advise.

I second going the I-551 stamp route since you're awaiting citizenship. Let us know what happens and if they approve you for a stamp.

Although the card is expiring soon, your status isn’t. You are still an LPR even with the expired card. 
 

I doubt it will take that long for your to yo be scheduled. Atlanta is not that slow. If you had said Seattle I would agree with you. But looking at the timelines on here, those having interviews in Atlanta now filed in November/December of last year. And that’s with the COVID shutdown having slowed things down for everyone.

Answer

Ordinarily, if your green card is going to expire within six months of applying for naturalization (form N-400), you are expected to also apply for an I-90 (green card renewal). If you have applied for naturalization more than 6 months before the expiration of your green card, and you are now nearing the expiration and your interview has not yet been scheduled, then you should schedule an InfoPass appointment at the local USCIS office to request an I-551 stamp for your passport. That stamp can serve as temporary proof of your permanent resident status (for work and travel purposes) while you are waiting for your N-400 to be approved. (02.Apr.2018)

Okay, yeah! I assumed that yeah, I am still legal obvs.... I guess my main concern really was that my Drivers License expires with my GC and I need to be able to drive so....

 

I will wait till January and see where things are and then try to get an infopass somewhere then....
