No. NVC is funded by DOS and is not on the same budget constraints as USCIS.

Does anyone know how uscis is set up? Is it certain officers assigned to certain visas? If so, will we know who was affected by the furlough?

 

(Please no harsh comments. Mental health is really down because of all of this. Just trying to find some kind of hope or at least broaden my knowledge.)

Argh that's annoying. Fingers crossed its super temporary. Really excited for my husband to become a US citizen. 

 

I also wonder how they do the logistics of assigning cases and things like that. I actually always thought it'd be pretty fascinating to work at USCIS.

No USCIS officers are assigned to any visas. USCIS does not handle visas. :)

Certain IOs are trained for certain types of cases. The people who handle an I-129F (petition for K visa relatives) may not be trained to handle N-400 (naturalization) or I-485 cases (both of which typically have an interview involved, with very different requirements). Some IOs are not trained to handle handle abuse cases and/or those with more complex legal questions or criminal activities (certain IOs at VSC typically handle these cases). The IOs that handle asylum cases (they have a huge set of unique tools that don't apply outside asylum cases) probably are not trained to handle petitions for workers.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thank you for the explanation! It sounds to me like there is not as strict of a set up as I was hoping. Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone that this all will be over soon😞
