Hey guys

so as you will all be in the same boat as me. Does anyone know if there has been any updated information about the US opening the borders?
I have to give my 3 months notice to work as I have got my K1 approved but still need to do interview and medical.
i am worried about when to give my notice to my job. If the embassy are taking interviews in August now do people think this is a good sign that we might be able to travel after that. Even if we had to self isolate I wouldn’t mind

any advise would be great

thanks

The US borders are not closed....certain restrictions are in place (namely only essential travel at land borders, IV restrictions, and people who have been in certain COVID-19 hotspots - the UK is included here).

It would be pure speculation on when that last restriction will be lifted. Option 2 is to travel to another country not impacted by a ban for 14+ days first.

Routine visa services are suspended still with no date specified for resuming for London. Some people may be getting interviews in August (I am not certain about this or what their circumstances are), but no date for reopening has been announced yet.

In response to significant worldwide challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of State has temporarily suspended routine visa services at all U.S. Embassies and Consulates. Embassies and consulates have canceled all routine immigrant and nonimmigrant visa appointments as of March 20, 2020, but will continue to provide emergency and mission-critical visa services as resources and local conditions allow.  We will resume routine visa services as soon as possible but are unable to provide a specific date at this time.

That doesn't make sense. Your K-1 cannot be approved until after you interview and do the medical.

Did you mean the I-129F?

Good news is you have up to 6 months from the date of the medical to use the visa, so 3 months should fit in that time fine.

Don’t give notice until you actually finish the interview. Then you might have a better idea of what the world is doing.

If you are thinking of giving three months notice now because you might get an interview and might be able to travel, that’s not a good gamble unless you don’t need any income after 3 months and your still waiting in the U.K.

Why are you concerned about the notice period? You are emmigrating.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Some people are worried about destroying goodwill with their former employer. If you work in an industry that has a lot of cross-border relationships I could see how that might be a worry. And for some people it's a point of honor.

I work for the NHS and my contract is to give 3 months and it is respectful too. Like I said I was just interested in others thoughts that’s all. I am sure lots of people are feeling the same as me and would like to have an idea of when they can be with their loved one.

That’s the recurring theme on Visa Journey and has been year after year. It’s the big unknown and always will be. And it’s never fast enough. When one piece of the process speeds up, another bogs down.  ::sigh::

NHS will have no consequence so up to you.

Don’t give your notice until approved at interview  because even then your visa can be delayed by administrative processing as many here including myself have discovered. 3 months should be ok after then but in rare cases may not be enough
