Hello everyone:

My case is approved by USCIS by Feb, 18. But since then I haven't heard any update from NVC. I send them email but respond is always "Thank you for contacting the National Visa Center (NVC).  As a result of the global COVID-19 outbreak, NVC is temporarily working with reduced staff. During this time, we ask that you only contact us with urgent medical or humanitarian inquiries, or necessary case updates that are still pending."

I tried to call them but the waiting time last for hours still no one answers. So I don't know where to find the case number. All I have is the receipt number from USCIS. I don't know what to do now.

Another things is because of the COVID-19, the embassy in China are all closed for now. Looks like it gonna take a while.

Any help/ideas/suggestions is appreciate. Thank you.

For K-1 cases, NVC is holding petitions until the consulates reopen. There's no update as there is no progress.

They may or may not assign a case number - I'm uncertain if they are doing that still.

Nothing is being shipped to the embassies as they are closed. You can try call both the non-immigrant and the immigrant phone lines and see if you can get through. You need the case number that NVC assigns so you can receive the most current update to your case from CEAC.state.gov.

Thank you for your information. So when you get case number, can you contact the local ambassador and move to the next step? I called NVC and got the case number. But the local ambassador said they can't do anything with just case number. What shall we do now?

All US consulates worldwide have suspended routine visa processing activities.* Only emergency appointments are occurring. They are still processing existing cases that already had an interview, and email/phone requests.

*There are reports of 1 consulate doing some interviews, but I can't recall which 1 it was offhand

Waiting no is your only option. Like others have said the visa processing has come to a complete halt beginning back in March. It would be a promising idea if you were to join others who are in the NOA2 to Embassy stage and download the PDF. I believe you will see and hear more information as things progress. Good luck and stay engaged.

When you get a case number, you can fill out your DS-160. I'm not sure what you mean by local ambassador, can you please clarify?

Hello:

Thank you for your respond. I call the ambassador in China can we make appointment. They keep asking where is your case file? They can't do anything because they haven't received the case file from NVC.

this is their reply:

Thank you for your email.  Please note that we have yet to receive your case file from the National Visa Center (NVC).  Your case is still under preliminary processing at NVC.  Once NVC completes its review, NVC will send you an appointment letter and will transfer the case file to this office.  We recommend that you contact NVC with any inquiries about your case status until you receive your appointment letter.

Do you mean the embassy in China? If you're trying to book your visa interview, the NVC isn't shipping any cases out to embassies as far as we know. Once the embassy has your case from the NVC, you can proceed with the rest of the immigration process.
