That's a ridiculous non-argument.

Even the US has unions and the right to strike. There's no way for people with a full-time job to have to pull 70 hours just to feed their family.

That's not even what she's saying.

“We’re not going back to working 70-hour weeks just so that we could put food on the table and not even feel any sort of semblance of security in our lives.”

No one's talking about a free lunch. I guess it's easier to argue against something you came up with yourself than arguing her actual point.

So reminiscent of the big hubaloo some are trying to make about "injecting the disinfectant", eh?  Interesting how it's done.

So you're suggesting that her actual tweet, that's out there for everyone to read, about working 70 hours a week, is exactly the same thing as the president saying that you should inject disinfectants, which he's actually admitted to saying?

Is that really what you're saying here? I don't even know what response you're expecting here.

So who exactly are you expecting to work those jobs and why shouldn't they be paid correctly for the work they've done?

In 1983, I made $3.35 per hour.  I quickly saw how that wasn't gonna work for me, so I took up mowing lawns, and made more.  Then I decided to figure out a way to make more money, so as to become more valuable to myself.  Have been doing that ever since.  "Pulling yourself up by your bootstraps", or whatever catchy term you choose.  The point is, there will ALWAYS be people available to work for minimum wage.  The smart, driven ones will rise above that.  Others will stay in place and take the minimum raises and barely exist.  It's all about choices.

In today's $$$, that same $3.35 would be $8.82.  Yet many want to see $15 as a minimum wage.

There's a LOT you don't know, based on your support of AOC and minimum wage alone.  But I still love reading your posts.

(Also, one of our members tried very hard to get you to read and comprehend the ACTUAL transcript of what Trump said, not what the MSM and social media are telling you.  He failed.  I am not going to waste my time repeating his valid effort)

Cool, because the cost of housing, education, healthcare and pretty much everything else haven't totally skyrocketed since then.

I live in Belgium. "There's a lot I don't know" doesn't really apply when I'm in a country that actually has most of the things she wants in place. There's a lot you don't know, as someone who doesn't actually have experience with her policies. I'm in a country that has implemented them since long before I was born.

And I watched the briefing live. I watched that whole fiasco unfold as it was happening. Unless the official WH stream is also influenced by the MSM and social media, I don't really see your point.

There are a lot of examples of her policies all over the world.  Most of those have failed.  So in Belgium, are fast food service jobs considered a career?  I doubt it.  People here are free to unionize if they want, they just have make sure they understand the consequences and decide for themselves if it is worth it.  I do how love AOC, and the Democrats in general want to depress individuals work ethic.  If someone wants to work 70 hours a week for whatever reason that is their choice, there are a lot of choices and opportunities out there.  I am sure Nancy Pelosi will need someone to keep her ice cream stocked up.

McDonalds actually pays a decent wage here and has won the employer of the year award more than a few times. Retail itself, while not being a high-paying job, still pays enough to comfortably live on when working a full-time 38 hour week. Promotion happens from the inside in most companies so it's not that weird to make it to a manager or higher position after a while, increasing your wage even more.

Legally we also get 20 days a year off, paid of course, and that number increases every year you've worked somewhere, usually starting the 5th year at that job. Sundays are also off and when you work Sundays, you get paid double. Working evenings (after 6pm) means that you get paid extra too, starting at 33%, depending on the company you work for.

Holidays are paid days off and all overtime gets paid at 150%.

All of these rules are regulated by law. Companies can offer more to attract workers and most do, but it's not something your life depends on because our system is designed to help its tax payers as much as it is designed to help businesses.

Our healthcare system is essentially free, while private insurance still exists and still provides you with bonuses over the free system. For example, you'd get a single occupancy room in a hospital instead of sharing the room with a maximum of 3 other people.

My insurance plan that covers everything costs me about 45 euro every 3 months and includes everything. Even before, I've never paid more than 40 euro to see a doctor and the money I did pay got 75% refunded every single time.

Again, you're making things up based on right-wing media coverage of the rest of the world. It's sort of ridiculous.

I am basing my analysis on what the Democrat Socialists of America say themselves.  Again, there is a big confusion between Democratic Socialism and a Social Democracy.  If Belgium wants to use their tax dollars for social programs that is their choice, but people like AOC and Bernie Sanders and the DSA want complete government control of the economy with themselves at the helm.  Not something I am in favor of.  As we know, most big social programs are not economically sustainable, and generally lead to bigger and bigger bureaucracy, even the venerable NHS in the UK has more non-medical workers to control the system than healthcare providers.

Makes sense.

Know what I don't do?  I don't go into Belgium forums and try to talk about Belgium "stuff" such as politics and cultural norms that I have little to no knowledge of, and tell the people there how they ought to be doing things.  I stayed in Belgium once, but it wasn't at a Holiday Inn Express.
