Marine commandant banishes Confederate symbols from all Corps installations

Marine Corps Commandant Gen. David Berger has ordered all Confederate-related paraphernalia to be removed from Marine Corps installations, his spokesman confirmed on Wednesday.

Military analyst B. A. Friedman first tweeted a document showing the commandant’s decision on Wednesday.

The document did not say when all of the Confederate-related paraphernalia needed to be removed by.

Berger’s spokesman confirmed to Task & Purpose that the commandant had sent a directive to his senior staff ordering all installations to get rid of symbols of the Confederate States of America.

As a student at the U. of South Carolina we were quite proud to have a museum of the Confederate army on our campus.  

I understand it has been moved off campus in some low profile location.

 

Also back then the State House, which was just a few blocks away from campus, flew the Confederate flag atop it's dome.  Long gone now.

If at first you don't succeed, then sky diving is not for you.

Someone stole my dictionary. Now I am at a loss for words.

If Apple made a car, would it have windows?

Ban shredded cheese. Make America Grate Again .

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.  Deport him and you never have to feed him again.

I started out with nothing, and I still have most of it.

I went bald but I kept my comb.  I just couldn't part with it.

Hemorrhoids?  Shouldn't they be called Assteroids?

If life gives you melons, you might be dyslexic.

If you suck at playing the trumpet, that may be why.

Dogs can't take MRI's but Cat scan.

I really dont have a problem with a state govt not flying the confederate flag.

Certainly a fine point.  Guess I was just alluding to the fact that I am so old I have seen a lot these changes.

Yes. I remember segregation.  I remember 3 restrooms in courthouse.  Male Female and colored.

As a Marine I am torn on this to be honest with you. I understand that this things are changing but for those of us who grew up in the South this is still flown as a symbol of our heritage. My ancestors did not own any slaves at all because they were all poor farmers. But he still went off and fought in the Civil War for the Confederacy. So I flew that flag for my heritage not hate. When I was a young Marine living in the barracks I did get permission to fly Confederate Battle flag in my room and my platoon sergeant hated that it was there. So every single field day he failed my room because he could so we had to reclean Friday night for inspection on Saturday morning. So I took it off the wall and suddenly we passed all of our room inspections. 

 

But I want to add that down here in the South before Dylan Roof you used to people of both races fly the flag. Go down to Myrtle Beach and see women of all color wearing Rebel flag bikinis.
