We have so many things to be thankful for and the troops are the ones to thank. I saw one yesterday in the mall and I am drawn to them to say "thanks".

If anyone sees a man or a woman in uniform, take time to thank them for what they do. They have chosen a selfless profession.

I will say thanks to a soldier. He is serving so that I don't have to. That warrants a big thank you. Other than that, what have they done for me?

Now as for WWII and Korean veterans I will always say thank you for protecting my freedom.

They keep you safe and protect your freedoms-for one. They realize that they are underappreciated.

I am PROUD of the men and women that serve their countries.

ALL COUNTRIES (F)

All countries? Tell that to my wife who has family members that have looked at the working end of an AK-47 in the hands of one of their own soldiers. And they were and had reason to feel threatened as those very soldiers shot dead people next to them. Regardless of age and gender. Yes, they shot women and children. Their own people.

You would be proud of those soldiers, too? Really?

Reinhard,

You just LOVE to argue. I am sure that pink roses really thinks that genocide is ok  or killing of mothers and children  You pick apart everyones words.

I didn't pick apart anyone's words. She said: "I am PROUD of the men and women that serve their countries. ALL COUNTRIES"

That necessarily includes the soldiers that serve to oppress their own people. Most soldiers in the world do just that. And I am just not sure how one can be proud of any such thing.

And what do you propose to change that (corrupt soldiers)? Because I doubt just a nice conversation would fix that problem. Same way I doubt just a nice conversation could have prevented Hitler from doing everything he was doing too.

Unfortunately sometimes war is the hard solution. I am not talking specifically about Iraq. No one I know personally actually likes war, but it is an inevitable part of humanity because humanity in my opinion has a lot of evil in it. And while there are people who want to control others and proclaim war on them, the other nation has to defend themself or become non-existent. The roots of war go back to things like defending your family, to defending your village, and defending a nation(if we go on a bigger and bigger scale). I also wish there would not ever need to be wars, but that is not reality during this time on earth. There's only one place I know of where there will be complete peace and I look forward to going there!

Not even going to bother with that one. I'll just agree and keep quiet.

Without soldiers, no tyranny could ever exist. Think about that for a second.

But the problem is how to keep people from being soldiers when I don't think it's possible to just say "don't be soldiers" and everyone would listen. It's just not reality to expect the whole world to agree to having no soldiers. I mean sure I wish it was, but it's impossible. And if that were to happen in countries like the US and UK, then it'd be scary if we were attacked one day by a huge army...and with having no soldiers...bye bye to us.

quoting myself to add more...

It's not soldiers who make tyranny, it's people who scheme evil things. And that will not stop on this planet in my opinion. So since that will not stop, there will always be armies raised up by men who do not care about the people on the planet, only about their glory and power(Hitler). And so in my opinion, we have to have people ready to defend against such things. The tyranny starts in the heart of someone, and then is used to coerce armies...and that's not going to stop. So how do we defend ourselves from people who do not think the same as others, who say there should be no war ever. They will say, the "no war ever" ideology can kiss their booties and it won't stop them from attacking.

yes cuz we haven't got back our freedoms..

no.. but seriously.. the 'soldiers are fighting for our freedoms'.. im sorry, but that's a lame spin that Bush invented (well, not him, maybe his marketing team)... because.. I've never ever ever seen the freedoms of americans violated since I've been here, nor before 9/11.. it's different to say 'they are fighting for your freedom, dont bash them, ayy la tristeza' rather than sayin 'soldiers are there because bush is a jerk who thought something and just started a war'.. im not gonna start the debate of 9/11-relationship to saddam (cuz there's no relation)... but.. the fighting for our freedom and rights,, thats/ bullshit.. sorry.. but it is.. they aren't fighting for something that hasn't been attacked yet...

I agree... however, I do believe that they serve in the military to protect us... it's not their fault they were told to kill in the name of the almighty Bush. if that makes sense.

yes.. it's true, the troops are here to protect us.. unfortunately, this ####### of 'freedom in iraq' wasn't harming us... and yeah, I agree, they follow orders.. but.. does following orders excempts u from ur own moral judgement of if this is wrong or good?
