I'm not surprised female violence against men is on the rise

It did not take long, so Felicia Sonmez, the lady reporter for the WaPo who dredged up the Kobe Rape case, suspended by her News(sic)paper and now is alleging numerous death threats and claiming insufficient guidance about how to protect herself.

Just seems a standard scenario now.

She's a reporter. Not a "lady reporter." Just like a scientist who is a woman is a scientist, not a "lady scientist." And what she did was inexcusable and in exceedingly bad taste. At the same time, no one should be threatening her with anything but firing and being ostracized.

Poor taste perhaps. But inexcusable? No. Free speech is free speech. I can tell you honestly that there was a ton of individuals saying the same thing, quite a few of them, men actually (it was a subject that was annoying quite a few on twitter - instead of fighting they used the mute button temporarily). They did not seemingly get any reprimand.

I must admit I was a bit gender presumptive. Apologies.

I think I read about the case, the guy who did my Heating System lived in Edwards.

Anyway back to the point I have no real problem if he had actually been found guilty, not really into the cleansing because somebody is now dead scenario, but my recollection was that he was not so this strikes me as a bit low.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I think you make a very good point, and perhaps I should say inexcusable at that time to me instead. It's kind of hard to express how much Kobe means to people here in LA -- there's been real public grief at the loss of one of 'ours." I am not a basketball fan but I grew up around people who were. He's a hero here. I think for me, it felt inexcusable at the time thinking of the Bryant family, the families of the other victims, and the public. The old "too soon."

I think the position of some, and it's not that I personally hold this opinion, is that often celebs are accused of something and get off quite easily, despite the particulars of the case. They play up the fact that they are beloved (look at Cosby for instance and how long people had to wait for some justice), and even when they are found not guilty of whatever crime, there will always be some that don't believe their innocence (think OJ). The reporter didn't claim that he was guilty, she just posted an article (that I think she wrote previously) about investigating the case. Remember that Kobe was not found guilty or innocent either way, the prosecutors simply dropped the case, because of unwillingness to testify. And we know that is an extremely common statistic in cases of rape, assault, and DV. So there was no resolution either way, and he settled the case. Remember, I've always said that settling does not mean one admits guilt in either direction, but many will see that as an implied guilt. Further recall he did admit to sleeping with her, stated he did not ask for consent, which was a pretty gross thing to do to his school sweetheart wife and family. The woman in the case also had physical injuries, I'd suspect would be difficult to obtain from a normal affair, unless they were into something quite... violent.

All of this stuff might have made normal people become quite ostracized and have consequences to their actions, but he did not. Kobe was held to nearly saint status or some sort of great hero. And maybe, just like Cosby, he did some good things for people. And maybe he also did something bad (we won't ever truly know in Kobe's case). What the reporter said was in bad taste and unfair to his family, but it wasn't untrue.

This is of course a function of the legal system and how it operates. I really do not see a practical alternative to innocent unless proved guilty. If there is some fudge well I can not think how it could work. And particularly in the US money is a major factor, seems that it is a pay to play system, I can think of several situations I have come across in my time here where the somebody I know has ended up pleading guilty to something because they did not have the resources to defend themselves.

Sometimes it seems a giant and complicated game and the important thing is to know the rules better than your opponent.

Civil matters are entirely different and yes the give me money or it will cost you a lot in publicity, legal fees etc does work.

So what happened here, no idea, one is dead and the other got a pay off, that is all we can be certain off.

In this case reporting a criminal record even perhaps with what may be seen as sucky timing I would not have an issue with, I have a feeling the motivation was somewhat different.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I pity poor Alex.

Great, I see Alex figured out his new password after all -- he liked this post. 😕

Two can play this game -- password changed again. :D

And yes, there is a sandwich waiting for him when he gets back from LAX in an hour. He said, can you make me something simple, nothing fancy, so I said okay, what are you thinking of? He said, oh, since you're not working right now, how about a Beef Wellington? 😖 He's getting a Croque Monsieur and some roasted broccoli.I don't think refusing to make him something fancy at a moment's notice counts as female violence against men, btw. (See, I brought it back to topic.)

I'm sad to say I eventually ate the other one. :( Total moment of weakness.

No WONDER you are so easy to manipulate.  You cave far too easily.

Maybe. Eating ####### can feel nostalgic though, you know? I have spent most of my adult life eating well, staying hydrated, and sometimes... sometimes part of me wants to sit down with some Velveeta Shells and Cheese and say, eh, eff it. It's not all hot yoga and spirulina cookies here. :P
