Hello, I'm looking for information about the change of address process when living outside the US.

My wife (applicant) and I (petitioner) are partway through the I130 process, currently waiting for our application to be processed at the Nebraska service center. We are currently moving from one non-US address to another non-US address.

I'm trying to figure out which change of address form to use in our case. The AR-11 form, and it's online version, only cover US addresses. The I-865 allows for foreign addresses, but I don't believe this is the correct form because we didn't file form I-864.

I have inquired at myaccount.uscis.gov, which sent me to the USCIS Contact Center (1-800-375-5283). The call center recognized I needed to talk to someone higher up the chain, but told me they weren't available and to call back another time.

Can anyone provide guidance on which change of address forms we need to fill out when you're living outside the US?

When we lived outside the US I had our USCIS mailing address set to my parent's house to make sure I got everything.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

@Paul & Mary, that's a good idea, but I'm not sure it'd work in our case. We're moving form Ireland to Japan, so beyond updating our place of residence, there could be other knock-on effects. For instance the embassy where the my wife's interview will take place will change. I imagine they'll need to update our info for that.

@H&T, that would be great if that was the case. However, when we check on our case's progress, the USCIS page clearly states, "If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address." The problem is there is no option to enter two foreign addresses.

Of course, I'm only 90% sure of anything in this process. I would be happy to be proven wrong in any of this!

It isn't that automated.  USCIS forms for the USCIS.  DOS forms for the DOS parts.

When you get to the submitting the VISA select the correct consulate.   You can also do that at the NVC.

A copy of our I-130  approval was sent to my parents.   I would have never received it in Mexico.

When you get to NVC you will just contact NVC to let them know you need to change embassies from Ireland to Japan. Notice it says “new MAILING address”, you may want to set up for your mail to go to a family member in the US instead, and if the mailing address is already set to the US, don’t worry about it. They are only concerned about where to mail it to, not where your physical address is, at this point in the process. When you get to NVC is where you will update physical address, on the DS260. Mailing address is the only concern

Thanks, it's good to know it's not as strict as I'd perceived, and that we can notify them of the change further down the road for important things like changing embassies.

If anyone does know the process, I'd still like to figure out how to update our international mailing address. While we can redirect our mail from Ireland to Japan, and have already done so, it's quite expensive to renew!
