Traveling through London

Hey so my fiancé just received his K1 visa and we were looking at flight tickets. One of the paths allows him to stop in London and change airports where he would have to pick up luggage in London, change airports and recheck his luggage for his flight to America. Will this be allowed with the US visa ? He’ll only be in London 8 hours. Will he run into any problems getting through customs in London ?

thanks!

Well if he leaves the transit area of the airport what he'll obviously needs to do when changing airports then he'll need a visa for the UK. His K1 is only good for the US and doesnt cover any other country.

As of 1 October 2019, Albanian citizens had visa-free or visa on arrival access to 113 countries and territories, ranking the Albanian passport 51st in terms of travel freedom according to the Henley Passport Index.

Oh that's a nice map. See, if you can choose any other european country he would be fine with his albanian passport without the hassle of getting a visa even if he has to leave the airport.

Not necessarily. Us visa is good for transiting as per the Uk government website for transit. I just want to confirm if anyone has ever actually experienced it. And had any issues.

Well you can transit while staying in the transit area of the airport or you can transit by leaving the airport and going to Another airport. In the second scenario you'll have to be admitted to the country with no guarantee for that country that you'll leave again. I would guess that's an important difference.

The safest way would be to ask the UK government about this issue. Maybe there is a contact you can call or email.

How much is the saving with a ticket that involves changing airports vs a ticket that doesn’t? Bear in mind the bus between the airports is not included, he would have to pay that himself and it’s around $40 if I recall (assuming it’s Gatwick and Heathrow) and it takes an hour. It’s a hassle. Plus the cost of the visa, if needed.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!
