Moving to new city, transfer? (merged)

Should I change the city I filed in? Or would it be best for us to fly back for the interview? We are moving from Houston to Salt Lake City. We filed beginning of Feb. 19 and would be moving at the end of Nov. 19. I'm thinking I should just transfer our paperwork. Is Salt Lake City faster processing then Houston? Will it cause a delay for our paperwork?

Uscis online processing times will give you a hint

YMMV

You are required by law to let USCIS know of any moves within 10 days as an immigrant.

You have to let USCIS know when you move. It's up to them to transfer the paperwork, though they should.

Since Houston is one of the slowest field offices (last time I checked, anyway), that's probably a good thing for you.

I just got the mail and our interview is scheduled for December 4th. I just got a new job last week and hadn't changed field offices (asked about this previously here). What can I do at this point? I am going to talk to my bosses and see if I can have that day off to fly back but that could be a nice chunk of change out of pocket. Can I reschedule to where we are moving? Just wondering what my options are at this point.

It at a minimum will add several months to the journey

YMMV

Agree. Don't recall your circumstances, restating the local field office (LFO) locations may have been helpful. It is likely of little difference, you may be able to reschedule at another field office, realize that at this time many LFOs have no available interview time slots, and you will be going to the back of the line.

You have to figure out what is important to you, get the interview done now, or wait for the scheduling mavens in Alexandria, VA have in store for you down the road, and what you may have going on then to prevent you from the interview at that time.... The choice is yours.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Thanks, I will talk to my bosses and hope we can work something out where I can fly back. I realized it's December 3rd, my first day is December 2nd. I'm hoping we can fly out the evening of the 2nd then return the evening of the 3rd. I'd much rather attend the interview we've been scheduled then mess with what could happen. Is the process the same to change address after the interview? I'm guessing my circumstances are kinda rare.

Nah, your circumstances are far from rare, actually they seem to be happening more frequently in the last couple of years. 👍

Regarding change of address, be sure to file a proper change of address (COA) with USCIS and USPS. Here is a newish USCIS online link about COA: https://www.uscis.gov/addresschange . Somebody way above my paygrade finally figured out a major issue with USCIS mailings. It seems that there are at least two huge government-affiliated bureaucracies that deal with these mailings, and if BOTH of them are not given the correct information, things often go awry, hence the newish USCIS link about COAs.  Who knows, maybe it will help.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Would like to clarify with the earlier post we had not received the interview notice, I only knew I was moving and asking about the procedure for changing address. My new question was the one I just posted about asking what I should do now that the interview has been scheduled right after I move and starting a new job but the interview is not in my new city (moving from TX to UT) as I have not changed address yet.
