Green card with confusing dates

So, I finally got my green card in the mail today. Looking at the dates, under resident since, the date they have in their is 11/09/18 with card expiration of 11/09/20.  Little info regarding my case.  I sent my aos package 11/06/2018. The USCIS got it on 11/09/2018.  I had our interview on June 6,  2019, we didn’t get approved on the spot, we got an RFE an RFE two months after interview, I sent RFE September 30,  2019, the USCIS got it October 1 and on October 10,  2019 I got an update saying that a new card is being produced.  So I know that I should have gotten a 2 year conditional one, but that dates they have makes it look like that I’ve been a resident since 11/09/2018 when that is the date they got all my AOS package.

 

So, did they made a mistake or I didn’t understand how this stuff works?

Your "resident since" date should the date your Adjustment of Status was APPROVED......they made a mistake.....

Yeah that’s what I think. We got married May 25,  2018

Oh, OK.......a 2 year conditional card is appropriate, but the "resident since" date is incorrect.   Better to get that corrected or it will cause issues at the next step (Removal of Conditions).

Yeah the “the resident since” date is incorrect and so is the expiration date.  Can you guide me what steps I need to do to correct it? I know I need to send my card back, which address do I send it back?

I believe you mail a form I-90 and select 2d.   @geowrian ?

Correct. I believe it is possible to file online in that case as well, although I don't have more info on that or have gone through that myself. In the end, there's no real advantage to using the online one - the paper I-90 is fine.

Yeah I think I’ll have to file the paper one since I’ll have to return my card to them.  Question is, I can point out what the problem is, but I didn’t have any notice of action paper saying I’m approved. All I got was an update email saying a new card is being produced. Will I need an official letter regarding my approval?

Actually, going back to your original post....you got the notification of the card being sent yesterday and got the card today? The NOA2 is probably still in the mail (or their mail room even...). I'd give it a little more time for that to come in so you can include it as evidence of the correct 'resident since" date. they can look it up so it's not critical IMO, but no harm waiting a few days and adding it.

Failing that, you can try the new case tracker (https://myaccount.uscis.dhs.gov/) and see if that has the AOS approval date. That one gives a full history of a case, not just the latest status. No guarantees, but it's something.

 

In the end, it'll get fixed. It's just a hassle to get there.

It's a real shame that USCIS makes this kind of a mistake on such an important document (and one that has taken so long to get).

Yeah I was wrong with my dates, I got the email about the new card being produced October 7, then another update that the card has been mailed October 9 and I got the card today in the mail. Sorry abt that.

Yeah it is, especially to get the dates totally wrong. The date they put 11/09/2018 is actually the received date on my I-485 notice of action.

@missileman quick question. I’m looking at form I-90 on part 3 question 1. Location where I applied for adjustment of status, do I put Chicago?

The city/State where you mailed your AOS application to.
