Im English my wife is American.

Filed for AOS in June 2018 had my interview May 2019. Here I am in August still no news one way or another is this normal?

The letter I got after the interview said I should get an answer or update in 120 days. Which will be early September. (My work visa expires mid November so I have to renew it unless the GC turns up soon)

Is los Angeles just slow?

Ok an EAD isn't a work VISA.

You should have filed for a new EAD 180 days before it expired.

In progress.

However is it normal that they take so long after the interview. I was told they would just have to do a background check then it was done

That is a risk of the way things are going right now.

I did my interview 22 March 2019 and the case is still under review at Yakima, did a service request because  we taught it was out of time but they sent us a mail and told us to wait,we have no option but to wait......

For many cases, the wait for the adjudication can be months, or years (I know two cases having 2 years of wait time without any adjudication). They still renew the EAD tho.

Just be proactive and don't wait on anything. Once your 180 days away from EAD expiration, file for renewal right away. Don't wait.

You can file a service request but in my experience that doesn't do anything.  The most helpful thing for us when my husband's EAD/AP was very delayed was getting our Congresswoman involved.  You could try that.  (Although our experience was nearly 2 years ago and I think the immigration landscape has majorly changed since then, and all in all it seems like wait times are longer).

But definitely make sure to keep an eye on when your EAD expires and apply for an extension.

Had my interview on 8/26, they gave me the same letter "held for review" and said it could be up to 120 days, but then the IO told us "it does not take that long." 3 days later my case was approved. So it should be fast. But sometimes things fall through the cracks or they just take forever on stuff. It sucks but doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong. Definitely do infopass/call USCIS/file a request etc. Don't even let your lawyer do it, do it yourself, you'll be far more engaged and persistent than he will.

when i did my interview I was approved on the spot ( at the end she told me we were approved) for the conditional green card. I got my card 3 days later in the mail and status changed online immediately. Two years later, I was approved without interview to remove condition the 10 year card although this time the whole process took over a year instead of 8 months ( backlog i guess). I seen people wait very long it all vary. Dosne't hurt you to make an info pass
