You would be surprised. They also should not ask for your EAD, GC before the i-9, but the first question u got if u r authorized or not and send a proof of it.... This is all before even they interview you. At least that was my experience so far.

From a point of view I can understand that they dont want to waste time on you if you are not authorized to work.

I will try to get an unrestricted SSC and for next time I am going to submit DL + SSC to see what happens.... I am still on my EAD as far as my employer knows....

Most actually ask if you will need to be sponsored to work, which is actually allowed to ask. The others - and there are a lot of them - are in violation. I'm a USC but I usually send them a friendly reminder. Usually it's agents/agencies/recruiters.

May want to say you’d like them to call department of labor if they can’t follow instructions. Or offer to do it for them. There was a topic here 6-9 months ago where it was the same question and op got the job and hr got a learning/retraining experience.

You can say whatever you  want, but if you want the job - do what they ask!  Don't threaten. Why not show your GC? That's a red flag.

To add to this, they’re actually prohibited from doing so

Ah really? I hadn't heard this before - is there something I can find on the USCIS site that references this?

Seeing how they have been acting, I wouldn't be surprised if they are the type of employer who fire you on the date of your GC expiration date

This ^! Different company, but that's what almost happened when his EAD was expiring - despite the fact that he provided a copy of his GC to 3 different people (two in HR, and his immediate boss) immediately after he received it.
