The easiest way is for her to meet you in Hong Kong, or somewhere else, and the two of you to enter together.  You get Balikbayan status for a year.  Otherwise you enter on a tourist and then at the airport you can get an extension to 59 days.  You can also do that at an consulate in the US.  After the 59 days you go to Intramuros and play the VISA game.

I agree with Paul you "could" do the tourist visa thing .. renewing the tourist visa every 59 days.

OR

Flying into the Phils, then you and your wife take a quick overnight flight to HK or whatever then when you enter the Phils with your wife request the BB stamp .. good for one year.    <  we use the BB stamp

That's a good deal.

I have not heard of this one or any one getting one of these.  I wonder how difficult or easy they are to get. They rules make them look rather easy to obtain on paper.

You get 30 day, they don't count the day that you entered as a day.

If you get the extention at the airport it around 3K peso to extend up to 59 days, or at least that what my research found out.

No exit clearance for a BB if you stay less than a year also

Correct.    should always plan to leave the Philippines 1 day short of a year with the BB stamp.

It was around P3000 at the airport or BI .. I did it both ways, but that was some years ago

It be much easier at airport, Last I heard you had to wear jeans to  go to BI

I tried to go to the Professional licensing department in Davao City a few years ago, they wouldn't let me in since I was wearing shorts.

It was easy enough except I didn't have any pesos so they ran around getting me "change" for USD .. I told them to just keep the difference but they wouldn't

It says you can only get up to 59 entry stay from the Consulate, after that you must to BI to get the extension

NOTE: The authorized maximum period of stay granted by the Philippine Consulate to all temporary visitor’s visa applicants is fifty-nine (59) days. If the applicant will stay beyond 59 days in the Philippines, an application for extension of stay must be filed at the Bureau of Immigration in Manila, or the Immigration office nearest to the place where the applicant is temporarily residing.
