I think almost any parent would disagree that it's not work. It's a lot of work.

As for immigration, it is considered work, and is displacing a US authorized worker. There's a reason why babysitters exist in the market.

I see; it’s unfortunate you didn’t see any of her issues before getting married.

As others have said citizenship shouldn’t be an issue. There’s also cheap/ free legal help available for your divorce. If your income is low enough. And child care tax credits etc... Bottom line there’s resources available to you. It’s going to take time and research.

but I ve met people that their parents were watching their kids while they were working. 

I don t think there s any grandparents that don t just love to be around their grandkids.

We see a lot of similar situations here too..

So how long have you been in the US?

You have been married for 10 years, have a 10 year GC and a 7 year old son and you also asked about the impact of a divorce on your naturalization. Wouldn’t you have been eligible for that at least 5 years ago (if applying the 5 year rule instead of the 3 year rule) already? Or have you not been in the US for all that time yet?

You'll be fine for immigration purposes.

You will need to find a family lawyer though.

Immigration wise, just divorce and move on.

Family wise, just divorce and find a family lawyer, and move on.


When raising your kid, you need to think about what kind of person you want your son to be with. Some people swear up and down by staying together "for the sake of the kid", but all you're doing is teaching your son that it is acceptable to stay in an abusive unhappy relationship, and that his future significant other can sit around, not work, drink, and cheat with other people on the regular and that all of that is acceptable. It's not. Raise the standards for your son. 


Set an example for your son, find a family lawyer, and get him in a healthy household.
