Yeah. I was also thinking the current situation will make it very unlikely for them to expedite. I heard that India is under lockdown until May 3rd. Do you think the Embassy in Mumbai will open once the lockdown is lifted or do you think it will take even longer for them to re-open?

No one can give you correct answer for this.
india will lift its nation wide lock down on 3rd may. But major cities will not go to normal right away.

keep in mind. Mumbai is the worst hit city in India. Over 2000 cases as of now and increasing. And this is the place where US consulate is located. I doubt Mumbai will function like normal city for at least a month.

i don’t think Embassy will reopen anytime soon. Even if India lifts lockdown don’t mean embassy will open as well.

Remember US consulate closed it doors well before Indian government thought of lockdown. So they wont come back to work just because city is open.

best case scenario. Consulate may start its normal processing by end of June.
worst case. Expect at least 6 months before things get back to normal.

Thank you for your response. This is a really tough and stressful time for all of us. Hopefully things get back to normal soon.

But with 1 tweet, I guess we are all F*&^%%d. Even if they re open, it won't be for immigration. All pending cases would be cancelled. Is that so? I know no one has answers right now, and the Executive order is not signed but it will be soon. All immigration halted till Trump wins re election.

Its not that simple.
i just saw bloomberg article who got a draft copy of Executive order. It says new EO “bars people from getting range of work visas for upto 90 days.”

it didn’t say anything about family based visas.

we will have more information soon. Until thn. No point in speculating. No one said all pending cases will be canceled. Its a temporary suspension. It could be 90 days or 120 days. Depends on the covid 19 situation one whitehouse official said.

so no one have the proper information. But this wont mean your applications will be canceled. It just means there will be delay.

anyways. Consulates are closed. So its not like you are going anywhere. Consulate will take couple of months to open up. Until thn. This Executive Order mess will be solved as well.

Any update on this? Heard they resumed family based visa but the info was incorrect on website. So much confusion. Is the US embassy in Mumbai holding interviews?

They will resume ir and cr visa applications once Mumbai consulate opens.
but no word on when they will open.
covid is still on the rise in India specially in Mumbai which accounts for 50% of total cases in the country and also where embassy os located.

so i will say it will take couple of months more for them to consider opening embassy for consular processing.

For the possible benefit of some members, here is our case in full:

Our son in CA was the petitioner for me and my wife.  We are in India. The timeline for the IR5 visa:

Priority date : 27 June 2018

The I-130 was approved by USCIS and sent to NVC: 17 Jan 2019

NVC case creation: 17 Mar 2019

Fees paid and All documents uploaded: 21 Apr 2019

My wife's case: Documentarily qualified on 10 May 2019

My case: Though same documents were uploaded for both, full scan of two documents asked for in my case, that was done immediately

My case also documentarily qualified on  4 Jun 2019.

Interview letters received on September 12, 2019

Went to Apollo in Chennai for medical

Mumbai Consulate interview on October 7, 2019 (No hassles, except for a long wait)

Passports with IR5 visa received after 10 days

Arrived in US on February 5, 2020, no hassle at airport, passport stamped as IR5

Green cards not received even after 4 months, sent online message to USCIS

Scary Washington Post article on July 9 on how legal immigrants were being turned illegal by not sending documents, also how USCIS has run out of funds and has stopped printing green cards and other documents.

Surprisingly green cards received on July 17, 2020

American dream fulfilled? Not quite, given the political, social and public health crises in this country!

I will be happy to answer any questions, though I have no idea of the Consulate situation now.
