Has anyone had any luck changing their last name on their SSN after marriage but before having any photo ID in that name? Will a marriage certificate really suffice?

I did! We went to the courthouse, got married, went down to the Civil Registry office to register the marriage and get certified copies then drove to the social security office. All they asked for was the marriage certificate and I got my new social reflecting the change a week later.

 

Edit: but I'm the USC. Idk if that may make a difference.

Yes i got my SSN with my last name changed...i went thr with my marriage certificate

So in I-485 application v dnt need to check the box which says ..do u want to apply SSN...rite ?

Correct, I didn't check that I wanted one because if you already have one you're set.

No problem! Just go through that checklist a few times, ensure everything is included, signed where needed, and don't forget proof of your marriage (marriage certificate, photos from wedding if you have and proof you live at the same address if you have, proof of financial ties if you have). I put my check on top (but papercliped in) so that it's the first thing they see.

I hav evrything except the joint bank account which v tried three times bt evrytime they told this is needed that is needed ..so v r going with marriage cert, pictures, rental lease aggrement, and electricity bill thts all

We had the same problem. Chase want me to change my name to my married name on my passport or get a utility bill in my maiden name before they will let me go on a bank account. I have to sort that out.

 

Because we came from K1 visas it won’t be a problem, plus there will be more proof of financial ties etc at the time of interview.

Yeah I think they understand that many of us file the AOS paperwork within 30 days of being married. There's only so much you can do in that timeframe. I've added my husband to my car insurance, mobile phone account, and as an authorized user on one of my credit cards, but I can't really do anything else until he has an SSN at the very least.

Nice! And now we wait for NOA1.

 

Mine had an attempted delivery on Tuesday, and then yesterday it was actually delivered and signed for. They haven't cashed my check yet.
