Hello, I have a k1 visa and I'm about to travel to USA. We want to get the marriage license the same week we arrive to our new home.

My question is, I would like to take my future husband last name but I'm not sure if I should do it since we get the marriage license and fill all aos process with the new name or when should I change it. I hope someone can help me

Thanks and blessings

Oh, I'm a woman lol

Kind of figured that.

You just file your AOS paperwork with your chosen name. And it's done.

When should you change the name on the passport? Is it ok to do during the aos process or wait till after you get GC ?

We tried to change her name on her ss card. But the SSA office said her i94 expired and they would could not change it. How do I change her name ? Do I need to wait for noa1 from our AOS application ?

Yup, you have to have at least 14 days of legal status remaining to be issued any SS card.

Now you need to wait for an EAD or green card to do so. The I-485's NOA1 grants an authorized stay, not a legal status permitting an SSN.

As said, once she receives her EAD (provided it was applied under married name), she can go back to SS office for name change on the card.

Understood. But a name change still requires meeting the requirements to be issued a new card.
