Haven't received my SSN yet

Hi There,

 

I got my green card last year and I have visited USA twice since then. I had to fly back to my home country because my work contract finishes this year in Nov 19. last time I went o US I applied for my Social security number and its been a month. They haven't yet mailed it to the given address in US. Is there a rule that you have to stay in US for a certain amount of time to get a SSN.

There is no minimum time  to stay before getting SSN card. You will have to call up the SSN office or visit one near you to  find out about the card.

You know your Green Card is for residing in the USA , not for visiting ?  Long absences ( more than 6 months )   you ' ll have  to  explain  at the border  and at the naturalization interview  .

More importantly, there's a "rule" that you have to stay in the US for a "certain amount of time" when you have a green card, and don't want to lose status.

 

Green cards are for permanently residing in the US, not "visiting" twice a year as you mentioned in your original post...how long have you been abroad since leaving on this trip?  When are you planning on returning to the US?  You may or may not have issues at the border when reentering.

OP, I believe there's another contract you are not fulfilling and that's the terms of your greencard. You'll need to choose between your foreign work contract or your greencard 'contract' with the US govt which simply requires you to make your 'living' in US which currently you aren't. If you are having issues with SSN, you'll have to visit a SSA office.
