Hi,

I have got a letter from The USCIS that my petition i130/CR 1 visa has been approved. Now, I believe my petition would be heading to NVC. I would like to know how long would it take to hear from NVC? Do they need a police report from my wife's country to submit it along with other documents to NVC? Or not?

I would really appreciate your help if someone can answer my questions and i say thank you in advance.

It can take anywhere between 2-4 weeks for you to get a case number from nvc beneficiary has to submit police report from all countries he/she has lived in for more than 6 months since turning 16. So if your wife is the beneficiary, she will need police report. The petitioner does not need to submit a police report.

once the USCIS site says sent to department of state you are looking at an average of 6-8 weeks to wait for a welcome letter, you can start calling around week 6 if you haven't heard anything to see if they have the Case and Invoice numbers ready for you.

Police certification will be required for any country your wife stayed passed the age of 16 for 6 months or longer.

Hello, I can tell you from experience that no police report will be needed in Afghanistan, because they do not have any police reports. if you are interviewing in Kabul it will not be necessary. I would start calling NVC 2 weeks after your approval with USCIS and ask them if they have a case number for you yet, they do not usually send anything in the mail. I never got anything in the mail for my husband and my brother never did for his wife we had to be proactive ourselves. Good luck to you both!

Thank you very much for your reply, and I am waiting for NVC to send me a case number. I contacted The NVC last week, but I was told that It could take up to six weeks to come up on their system.
