Hello, it's been 12 business days after a successful interview at the US. Embassy in Ghana. My fiance received his approved note telling him how to pick up his passport at the DHL branch in 10 working days. After checking online ustraveldocs use to say the passport is at the embassy now it says no update information. The other site says administrative processing... Is this normal?

Every application goes through administrative processing after the interview and before the visa is issued. How long it will take is unknown. Every case is different.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

You may want to look at average AP duration (interview to visa issued) at your embassy and have a better idea of what is normal for your country. This is rather country specific.

Just about everyone goes through this process.  Based on the discussions I had with the case officer he informed me of the steps to complete the processing of a visa:

the first AP is the immigration unit doing the paperwork for approving the visa

the first ready is a notice that they are finished and the paperwork is being sent for visa issuance

the second AP is the visa issuance people doing their own paperwork

the second ready is that the visa has been issued and is currently being processed for delivery

Then "issue" is posted and the visa has left the BIG house to YOUR house.

Once you get that second ready, it should be sent out within a few days, although we received our visa before any of the various websites that allow you to look up the status said that it had been sent out.

Hello Mr Greenbaum,

On an unrelated issue, I received my RFE and it has an envelope for returning what they asked for. Can I send it Overnight by Fedex and put the little envelope received from USCIS inside the big Fedex Enveloppe? That is, I put the Judgment of Divorce and the cover letter from USCIS inside the provided envelope and then put everything in the Fedex Overnight envelope.

Please let me know as I am going to mail out the response to the RFE this week.

Thanks in advance for your help.
