Advice on CR-1 vs IR-1

Hi everyone 

I finally received notification that we are documentary qualified for an CR-1/IR-1 visa after submitting AOS and civil documents through CEAC. 

 

Our 2 year anniversary is approaching on April 20. I am just wondering whether anyone has rescheduled their interview just before their 2 year anniversary to after their 2 year anniversary so that they receive IR-1?

 

If we are scheduled for an interview before April 20 I’m just wondering if we could reschedule it for after April 20 to get the IR-1.

Our embassy is Auckland, New Zealand so I believe there should be a lot of interview slots available. 

 

I do not mind going through the process of having to remove conditional status but we are close to our 2 year anniversary so just wondering if this is an option.

It isn't based on when the interview is but rather when you enter the US.  Two years after wedding you get the IR-1.  The visa is good for 6 months after medical.

It is based on when you enter the US, not when you are approved. You can have the interview before April 20th yet enter the US 3 months later. The day you enter the US is the day you become a permanent resident.

Ohhhh okay thank you. For some reason I thought it’s from when you are approved. Thanks for advising.

The visa is based on when they issue the visa (not the interview).

The status is based on the date of entry into the US via the immigrant visa.

For determining if you are a conditional resident or not, it's based on when you enter the US.

The problem with using pronouns instead of actual descriptions is that one is left to conclude on their own, the meaning of the pronoun, (it) in this case.  CR1 and IR1 are not each a single "it".  They are both visa categories and immigration status designations.  A person with a CR1 visa, who enters the US....AFTER..... the second wedding anniversary is entitled to IR1 status.
